Stanlake must wait to put best foot forward

An ill-timed injury has stalled the towering Queensland quick's entry to the domestic summer on the eve of the JLT One-Day Cup

An infected toe will keep a pumped-up Billy Stanlake on the bench for Queensland's JLT One-Day Cup opener on Friday.

The setback continues a frustrating run for the towering quick, who overcame back injuries to burst onto the international scene last season.

The 22-year-old earned Australian one-day and T20 caps as well as an IPL contract last season, but only managed to bowl about 60 overs in a bitter sweet summer.

Stanlake snares first ODI wicket

He missed last year's domestic one-day tournament and had his sights set on leading the attack after nudging the 150kph mark before the latest setback.

"I was probably bowling the quickest I ever have (before the toe injury) and I wanted to be that up-front aggressor and lead the way for the boys," he told AAP.

Stanlake, who will again play for Adelaide Strikers in the KFC Big Bash League, hopes to be fit for the Bulls' third game against Victoria at North Sydney Oval on October 7.

"It's not good timing; I haven't played for Queensland for a couple of years, so to go through preseason and get something like this and miss out is tough," he said.

"Last year, playing for Australia and going to IPL all of a sudden unexpectedly was great, but I didn't really end up playing many games."

The Bulls open their JLT Cup campaign against the Cricket Australia XI at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Friday.

The tournament begins at the same ground when the CA XI meet South Australia on Wednesday.

All matches will be live-scored and live-streamed via www.cricket.com.au and the CA Live app.
