Re-live IPL epic's final moments

The closing stages in Rajkot had everything, including a Super Over!

It’s been dubbed the game of this year’s Indian Premier League.

Chasing the Gujarat Lions’ modest target of 154, the Mumbai Indians found themselves 24 runs away from victory with three overs left and the talented Pandya brothers at the crease.

What followed can only be described as chaos, as the balance of the game swung back-and-forth as Gujarat took five wickets, including three direct-hit run-outs, off the final 12 deliveries to bowl Mumbai out on the last ball of the game with the scores tied.

Two equally nail-biting Super Overs followed, as Jasprit Bumrah somehow won the game for the Indians after having to re-bowl two of his first three deliveries.

Below, we re-live the final 20 (legal and illegal) balls of a truly thrilling encounter.

18.6 - 7 balls left, Mumbai need 12 to win

Facing his very first ball, Mitchell McClenaghan sends a sweetly-timed scoop-sweep towards the fine-leg fence. But Gujarat quick Irfan Pathan, playing in his first game for his new side, not only makes an excellent save, his return throw from the boundary clatters into the stumps to have McClenaghan short of his ground.

19.1 – 11 off six

Pathan, who conceded 16 off his first over, is thrown the ball and sees his first offering dispatched over his head for six by Krunal Pandya.

19.2 – 5 off 5

A single to Pandya, leaving No.10 Bumrah to face his first ball.

19.3 – 4 off 4

Bumrah bunts into the off-side as Pandya eagerly calls him through for a quick single, but the lightning-quick Ravindra Jadeja’s one-handed pick-up and thrown from point hits the bowler’s end stumps to cap a phenomenal bit of fielding.

19.4 – 4 off 3

Pandya gets one past Jadeja at point and hurries back for a second run, keeping the strike and now has the chance to seal the match for Mumbai.

19.5 – 2 off 2

Pandya slaps a full ball to mid-off for a single, levelling the scores but leaving No.11 Lasith Malinga to face the final ball.

19.6 - 1 off 1

From around the wicket, the left-armed Pathan spears it into Malinga’s pads and the ball again spills out to the panther-like Jadeja. With Pandya having set off as soon as the bowler released the ball, he dives full length as Jadeja, with barely more than a stump to aim at, hits the woodwork again. Replays show Pandya was caught short by a matter of millimetres, an incredible finish to send the match to a Super Over.

Mumbai’s Super Over

0.1

Handed the ball after going for 34 from his four overs, James Faulkner starts his Super Over well with Jos Buttler only able to eke out a single on the off-side.

0.2

Not what Gujarat wanted as Faulkner, from wide on the crease around the wicket, aims an off-side yorker to Kieron Pollard but the powerful West Indian muscles it for a one-bounce four

0.3

This one’s straighter and right in Pollard’s wheelhouse, sending Faulkner’s third ball sailing over long-on for six runs, and the Australian has now gone for 11 off three balls.

0.4

Just as Mumbai look to have claimed the upper-hand in this see-sawing contest, Faulkner’s switch to over the wicket pays off as Pollard departs after picking out Aaron Finch on the long-on rope.

0.5

Faulkner wraps up the ‘innings’ with a second wicket, Buttler well caught after skying one and Gujarat need 12 to win.

Gujarat’s Super Over

0.1 – 12 needed off 6

Given the job of containing Gujarat openers Finch and Brendon McCullum, Bumrah seemingly makes the perfect start when the Victorian misses a 140kph yorker. But the umpire signals a no-ball to Mumbai’s dismay.

0.1 – 11 needed off 6

A free-hit, but Finch can only manage a leg-bye after missing an attempted scoop

0.2 – 10 needed off 5

With McCullum feigning to move across the crease, Bumrah goes for the wide slower ball but it goes horribly wrong as it sails comfortably wide of the off-side wide line. Another extra!

0.2 – 9 needed off 5

Under immense pressure now, Bumrah pulls off the gutsiest of balls, going for a straight slower ball which completely deceives McCullum. Dot ball.

0.3 – 9 needed off 4

Another slower ball and McCullum has no idea about it, but wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel makes a blunder. The ball slips though his legs as the Gujarat pair scamper for a bye.

0.4 – 8 needed off 3

Perhaps the best of the lot from Bumrah. The awkward right-armer fires in a yorker that narrowly misses off-stump, as Finch, perhaps expecting another slower ball, swings and misses.

0.5 – 8 needed off 2

Needing a boundary, Bumrah goes for the blockhole again. It’s not quite what he hoped for – a thigh-high full-toss – but Finch is done for pace this time, only managing a single after the ball crashed into the splice of his bat.

0.6 - 7 needed off 1

Bumrah caps off a memorable over and an epic game with another yorker, McCullum only able to pump it to long-off as Mumbai claim victory.
