Batting at No.4, Warner only made six on the first day of Australia A's three-day match against a Zimbabwe Select XI in Harare.
Australia A were dismissed for 226 after winning the toss and the Select XI were 5-82 at stumps on day one.
Warner has had a tumultuous few weeks, with the Test opener suspended after punching England's Joe Root in a nightclub incident.
The team ban ended before the first Test, but he was released to the Australia A tour of Zimbabwe and South Africa so he could find form.
Warner is set to return to the main Australian team in time for the third Ashes Test.
The Australian bowlers then ripped through the home side's top order, with young paceman Pat Cummins snaring 2-6 from six overs.
