Haddin equals Australian record

Gloveman takes six catches, enters history books

Brad Haddin has equalled the record for most dismissals in a Test innings by an Australian wicketkeeper.

Haddin finished with six scalps – all caught – when India were bowled out for 408 by lunch on day two of the second Commonwealth Bank Test at the Gabba on Thursday.

He joins an elite group that also features Wally Grout, who snared six at Wanderers Stadium in the 1957-58 series against South Africa, Rod Marsh (Brisbane v England, 1982-83) and Ian Healy (Edgbaston, v England 1997).

And Shane Warne joked that the veteran gloveman should have had more after the bizarre dismissal of opener Murali Vijay on Wednesday.

Haddin appeared to stump Vijay for 144 when he charged off-spinner Nathan Lyon but replays showed the opener had nicked the ball and also been caught behind.

"Can you give him two for that?" Warne laughed while commentating on Nine Network.

Haddin did have a chance to be the outright record holder but he missed a tough caught behind chance from Varun Aaron off Lyon late in India's first innings.

The overall Test record for most innings dismissals by a keeper is seven, held by Pakistan's Wasim Bari (1978-79), England's Robert Taylor (1979-80), Kiwi Ian Smith (1990-91) and West Indies' Ridley Jacobs (2000-01).

The 37-year-old also overtook Alec Stewart (241) to move into ninth on the list of most Test dismissals by a wicketkeeper. He currently has 246.
