Harris primed for first Test in Adelaide

Fast bowler has 'zip' back despite limited preparation

Brad Haddin has allayed any concerns about the fitness and form of Ryan Harris, saying the veteran paceman has got his "zip and nip back" ahead of the first Commonwealth Bank Test against India.

Harris was one of several players under an injury cloud heading into the now rescheduled Gabba Test, which was delayed following the passing of Phillip Hughes last week.

Harris had been far from satisfied with his form in the lead-up to the opening Test of the summer - which had been scheduled to begin on December 4 - having struggled to find his best during his return to cricket in the Bupa Sheffield Shield last month, his first competitive hit out since he underwent major knee surgery in March.

Quick Single: Haddin issues supporters' call to arms

While the three other fast bowlers in Australia's first Test squad - Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle and Josh Hazlewood - were rested from the final round of Shield matches before the Gabba Test, Harris was allowed to play for the myFoot Dr Queensland Bulls as he searched for the rhythm and consistency that made him a vital part of Australia's pace attack last summer.

But Queensland's match was abandoned following Hughes's fatal injury, meaning Harris has had to rely on bowling in the nets to get his confidence back before his first Test in over nine months.

Haddin said Harris had shown signs of his best form during a centre wicket session on Friday, even though the 35-year-old remains his own worst critic.

"Yeah he was good yesterday. He had good zip (and) he was his normal negative self," Haddin said with a smile.

"(He was) bowling, asking if he's doing the right thing, if it's coming through good.

"But he had that Ryan Harris zip. I was lucky enough to face him for a good 20 minutes and it was tough work and it's good to see him back playing and bowling the way Ryan does.

"He won't think he was bowling very good, but he had that zip and nip back which is really good."

Quick Single: Clarke shaping up well for Test - Haddin

Haddin also dismissed any concerns about his own fitness, saying he has fully recovered from the shoulder injury he suffered in the second Test against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

With the first Test of the summer pushed back until December 9, five days later than originally planned, the vice-captain says he's ready to play his 60th Test.

"I've had no problems with my shoulder," he said.

"I wouldn't have come back to play if I wasn't confident in it

"I've got no ill effects at the moment with it so it's all systems go there, which is good."
