Lee selects his Aussie World Cup XV

ODI legend includes West Australian bolter Behrendorff and Test spinner Lyon

World Cup winner Brett Lee wants selectors to throw uncapped left-armer Jason Behrendorff into Australia's 15-man squad for the upcoming 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Lee, part of Australia's victorious 2003 World Cup campaign, has been impressed by the 24-year-old's performances in limited overs cricket this year, particularly his work with the old ball.

"I think he's been fantastic during the BBL," Lee told cricket.com.au of the Perth Scorchers quick.

"With his changes of pace and being a left-armer, he can add a lot of experience through the bottom end of the innings and bowling at the death with his yorkers and changes of pace."

Behrendorff is one of four frontline fast-bowlers in Lee's squad for the tournament, along with Mitchell Johnson, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc.

Lee said he agonised over which four quicks to pick in his squad, acknowledging the likes of Ryan Harris, Josh Hazlewood and Kane Richardson were incredibly unlucky not to make the cut.

The most contentious selection in Australia's squad, which will be unveiled in Sydney on Sunday, is that of injured skipper Michael Clarke.

Clarke revealed this week that he is ahead of schedule in his recovery from hamstring surgery, but has previously stated that he may not be fit for Australia's tournament opener against England on February 14.

Lee had no hesitation in putting Clarke in his squad and expects George Bailey to captain the side should Clarke miss any matches due to the injury, with Victorian Cameron White to act as cover should he have a serious setback in his recovery.

The identity of the frontline spinner in Australia's squad will be one of the main points of interest on Sunday, with Test incumbent Nathan Lyon, left-armers Xavier Doherty and Ashton Agar and uncapped leg-spinners Cameron Boyce and Adam Zampa in the mix.

Lee is pushing for Lyon over the more experienced Doherty, despite the off-spinner having played just eight ODIs in his career.

"The way that Lyon's bowled throughout this whole Test series ... I think he's got so much that he can bring to the team," Lee said.

"He spins the ball, he doesn't bowl flat, and he gives himself a chance to take wickets.

"In one-day cricket, it's not about just bowling flat and getting through your overs. You've got to attack."

Lee has been impressed by the development of his Sydney Sixers teammate Sean Abbott and was desperate to squeeze him into his squad, but couldn't find room alongside allrounders Shane Watson, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner.
