Brisbane could be biggest bashers ever

Heat's powerful batting line-up on track to become the fastest scoring team in a single BBL season

Brisbane's big-hitting batsmen are on track to go down as the most destructive in the history of the KFC Big Bash League.

Spearheaded by Chris Lynn and Brendon McCullum, the Heat have plundered 540 runs from their opening three games at 9.58 per over to shoot to second spot on the ladder.

That's quicker than any full season run-rate by any side in the six-year history of the competition, well up on the best of 8.70 by the Melbourne Stars in 2013-14, when Luke Wright and Cameron White took them through the regular season undefeated.

The Sydney Sixers will be the next side to attempt what the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Thunder and Hobart Hurricanes have failed to achieve so far this season when they try to tame Brisbane's rampant top order at the Gabba on Tuesday night.

The undefeated Heat lead the competition for sixes hit with 31, seven more than the second-ranked Strikers, who have played one extra game.

Lynn leads the league with 13, while former Kiwi skipper McCullum is tied for second with seven. Alex Ross has also struck five and allrounder Joe Wildermuth three.

"Me and a few of the bowlers were sitting up there thinking thank God we're on the Heat's side," said Wildermuth of watching Lynn's display from Friday night against Hobart.

"It's tough enough when you're bowling in the nets having the ball hit back at you, let alone being out there."

Lynn is also the leading run-scorer in the competition with 198, while he also tops the averages having only been dismissed once.

McCullum meanwhile has the highest strike-rate for those who have scored more than 100 runs in the competition - his 118 runs coming at a rate of 196.66. Lynn is third on that leaderboard, going at 167.79.

The Heat could also add further batting star power for Tuesday night, with former Test batman Alex Doolan recovered from a broken jaw and back in the 13-man squad.

Doolan has not played since he suffered the blow and was forced to retire hurt after hitting a Sheffield Shield double century for Tasmania against Western Australia in November.

Nathan Reardon has dropped out of the Heat's extended squad and will play in New Zealand's Twenty20 league to give him some match practice, as has paceman Luke Feldman.

Meanwhile the fourth-placed Sixers are likely to stick with the same side that was defeated by Adelaide on New Year's Eve, with only Jordan Silk added to their 13-man squad.

After a record Gabba crowd of 34,601 watched Brisbane's first match of the season against the Hurricanes last Friday, another crowd in excess of 30,000 is expected for Tuesday night.
