No brotherly love in Big Bash decider

Don't expect the Hussey brothers to hold anything back in the Big Bash final

Forget mate versus mate, the Big Bash League final will pit brother against brother.

Melbourne Stars skipper David Hussey and Sydney Thunder counterpart Michael Hussey will relive their backyard battles at the MCG on Sunday.

Based on the way their childhood cricket clashes played out, don't expect it to be an overly cordial affair.

Big brother Michael has often detailed their backyard scraps as "basically us two beating each other up".

"They were were pretty brutal. We were constantly at each other and it would often end up in fights," he said in 2008, when David made his ODI debut.

"David would never go out and it would always end up me threatening to bash him up.

"As a kid, everything was competitive.

"We weren't friends, definitely not. I just saw him as the enemy and had to win."

David Hussey noted at the same time that some of their squash showdowns were just as fierce.

"I used to always aim for his back, the back of the legs so he would have to retire and I could win the match," he said.

"I was a bit dodgy like that."

Adding to the occasion is the fact it will be Michael Hussey's final match, with the curtain finally coming down on a career that featured 79 Tests and 185 ODIs.

Perth Scorchers skipper Adam Voges is keen to see how it plays out between 38-year-old David and 40-year-old Michael.

"Hussey versus Hussey. It'll be a good script to write I guess," Voges said after his side's semi-final loss.

"Hopefully there's a big crowd."
