Best I've bowled in years: Boyce

Leg-spinner eyes Shield recall after snaring six Windies wickets in Brisbane

Queensland leg-spinner Cameron Boyce hopes to have attracted the attention of his state selectors after an impressive showing for the Cricket Australia XI against the West Indies in Brisbane.

Boyce, who has been overlooked for the myFootDr Bulls’ last three Sheffield Shield matches, grabbed six wickets in the CA XI’s 10-wicket win, helping dismantle the tourists for 210 in their second dig with 4-84 off 20 overs.

Boyce, Australia’s T20 spinner, played in Queensland’s opening Shield match of the season against the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers but was omitted after conceding 140 runs in 32.2 wicketless overs.

Quick single: Windies thrashed by young CA XI

Off-spinning allrounder Jason Floros has taken over spin duties for the Bulls’ three matches since, while 22-year-old uncapped leggie Mitch Swepson has been named in the squad for their clash with the NSW Blues beginning Sunday.

Boyce, whose most recent appearance before the CA XI clash reaped 1-120 from 22 overs against Western Australia in Queensland's Future's League side, said he felt the match at Allan Border Field marked a turning point.

“I was pretty happy,” Boyce said.

“I was saying to the coach that it’s probably the best I’ve bowled in the last couple of years.

“After being left out of the Shield team for the last few rounds it was good to get some hard work in again and to get some wickets.

“It’s good to prove people wrong. The selectors know what they are doing, so hopefully I’ll put on a few more good performances on like that and get back in the team as soon as possible.”

Sunday’s round of Shield matches are the last for the year, meaning Boyce will now look to make an argument for selection playing for the Hobart Hurricanes in the KFC Big Bash League.
