Lynn looks for bright end to tough week

Brisbane Heat star hoping selectors and a niggling neck concern won't deny him an ODI debut on home turf come Friday

Chris Lynn admits it "hasn't been an ideal week" but the Australian half of the Bash Brothers is one of about five million Queenslanders hoping he can end it on a high.

Lynn has lit up the Gabba in BBL|06 via some sizzling six-hitting form and there's a good chance he'll be debuting on his home patch come Friday when Australia take on Pakistan in the first VB Series ODI.

Provided he's picked by the national selection panel, which includes his former Bulls coach and current national mentor Darren Lehmann.

And the 26-year-old could be omitted for two reasons: the selectors look to Glenn Maxwell as George Bailey's replacement instead of the in-form Lynn; or they deem the Queenslander isn't fit enough to take part.

Chris Lynn smashes Heat to massive win

The latter concern is due to what Lynn last night revealed to be a bulging disc in his neck.

Yet it didn't stop him hammering 11 sixes in a ridiculous 98 not out in Perth last week for Brisbane Heat, and he insists there's no chance it will slow him down in Australian gold.

"Yeah it hasn't been an ideal week – the docs have come to the conclusion that I've got a bulging disc in my neck It's just pushing against the nerve, but I'm on some pretty good drugs at the moment and I'm doing all the right things," Lynn said on Network TEN during the Heat's defeat to the Scorchers in last night's KFC Big Bash match.

"Touch wood they kick in over the next 24 hours and I'm good to go.

"It's not going to affect my performance, that's for sure."

Baz, Burns go bang at the Gabba

With the Heat skittled for 129 as their star performer watched on from the sidelines, Brisbane fans will certainly be hoping there's a very good reason Lynn is missing Big Bash matches as their team chases a finals spot.

And warming the bench for the national team simply won't cut it.

As guest commentator for the evening, Lehmann was one of those who interviewed Lynn, and the dialogue between the two was relaxed, if not particularly insightful:

Lynn: "Shoulder's fine mate."

Lehmann: "You pulled up OK mate?"

Lynn: "Yep, I'm all good."

Lehmann: "Good to go?"

Lynn: "Yep."

Lehmann: "You training tomorrow mate?"

Lynn: "I'll be there coach."

Lehmann: "Don't be late."

Lynn: "No. Just pick me up from the Story Bridge (Hotel) on the way."

Terrific Tye takes a hat-trick at the Gabba

Lynn has played five T20Is for Australia without showing the kind of form that has made him the headline act of the Big Bash, though he has continued his Heat trend of hitting more sixes (four) than fours (three) in green and gold as well.

The Brisbane product was set to take part in last year's T20I series in Sri Lanka but injured his troublesome shoulder in the build-up.

It was an injury not unfamiliar to Lynn, who has missed the start of the past three seasons with shoulder issues.

"It's been a big two weeks, so it's very satisfying and rewarding getting the call-up (for Australia)," he added," before playing down his own stunning streak of form that has seen him shoot to the top of the BBL run-scorers list, with 26 sixes in the process.

"To be honest I probably got lucky a fair bit – a couple of chances went down, but I wacked a few out of the middle which is always pleasing.

"I'd like to continue that form hopefully in the ODI team on Friday, if given the chance."
