Lynn smashes five sixes in a row

Brisbane Heat captain Chris Lynn has taken his phenomenal KFC Big Bash League season to spectacular new heights, blazing five consecutive sixes during one Ben Hilfenhaus over in his side's clash with the Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. 

Lynn, the leading run-scorer leading into this match with 322 and the BBL's top-ranked batsman, scored a lightning 56 from 24 balls, with 30 of those runs coming from the final five deliveries of Hilfenhaus's first over - the sixth of the innings.

Lynn prodded Hilfenhaus's first offering to cover, but it quickly proved to be the calm before the storm. 

At that point, he was 23 from 14 balls.

The first six was a massive blow over square leg, deep into the stands. 

The second was a little further forward of square, over midwicket and into the stands. 

Number three was from a full-toss on leg stump, flicked behind square. 

And the final two came straight, the first a cross batted heave and the second a driven effort that travelled like a tracer bullet and barely cleared the rope. 

The five sixes averaged a distance of 93 metres, and in a blink, Lynn had registered the third-fastest fifty in Big Bash history, from just 19 balls (he and Tim Ludeman hold the record, from 18 balls). 

Two overs later, leg-spinner Adam Zampa had him caught on the fence.

In all, he'd hit seven sixes - with two coming from one Dan Worrall over prior to the main event - and two fours, an even 50 in boundaries in one of the most stunning innings seen in Big Bash cricket.

The score was 1-84 in the eighth over, and while Lynn's contribution was over, the groundswell of support to have him wearing green and gold appears to be only just beginning.
