Lynn to extend purple patch

Hard-hitter eyes Australia A after IPL

Back in Brisbane after an extended party with the Indian Premier League champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Chris Lynn is turning his attentions to pressing his national credentials with Australia A.

Lynn and KKR teammate Pat Cummins stayed on in India for a grand celebration in front of a packed Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. Lynn and Cummins, the only Australians in the KKR outfit, watched from the sidelines as the Knight Riders chased down their target of 200 with three balls to spare to defeat the Kings XI Punjab in a thrilling final

Selected for all three squads on next month’s Australia A tour, Lynn is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Australia star David Warner, who earned his Baggy Green after getting his start in the shortest format.

"We've seen blokes come through and debut in Test cricket thanks to their performances in one-day and Twenty20 cricket so anything is possible, " Lynn told cricket.com.au

"As a kid you want to play for Australia and wear the Baggy Green. Every opportunity you get to bat in the middle you try and take that with both hands and that's why you train so hard."

Lynn played only the two games for KKR and was a nervous spectator in the final.

"When (Kings XI) made 199, I thought we were under the pump a bit," Lynn said.

"The boys fought very hard and that was nine wins in a row for the team. We came from second last to win the competition."

Lynn's IPL opportunities may have been limited, but he made the most of his appearances, scoring 45 in a big partnership with South African legend Jacques Kallis, and taking a stunning catch on the boundary.

"If I got a game that was a bonus I thought," said Lynn. "I got a couple and did alright. I'm more than happy with that.

"Obviously I would have liked to play a little more cricket but that's the way it goes. There are some superstars in that XI so I was more than happy to sit and watch them play.

"I only got 45 in one of the innings but just to get away and get a start in the IPL in front of those crowds made me feel a lot more comfortable."

Batting alongside the 166-Test veteran was an eye-opening experience for the 24-year-old XXXX GOLD Queensland Bulls player.

"He's a very calm bloke and that's what you need out in the middle at times and he brought to when I was batting out there with him," said Lynn.

"He's more a traditional player and us younger guys try and get on with it a bit more but he brought that balance to the team nicely."

As for that catch which set the social media world alight, Lynn is still taken aback by the social media reaction.

"I was getting all the tweets about it in India. When it happened, I thought, geez, I've just saved myself a bit there," he said of an effort that required him to leap and twist after losing his footing in a pivotal moment.

"To recover and take the grab was a special feeling. If I had of dropped it, it would have gone for six and we would have lost the game."

The IPL experience behind him, Lynn is now firmly focussed on pushing his national credentials with the Australia A set-up.

"I'm over the moon with that," said Lynn. "Any time you can get to play any game of cricket for your domestic side or your country is a good feeling, that's why you play the game. "
