Another shoulder injury derails Lynn

Australian appears to dislocate his left shoulder in IPL match in Mumbai

Chris Lynn's short-term playing future is under a cloud after he suffered yet another shoulder injury overnight.

The Australian star has a long history of shoulder problems and that continued when he appeared to dislocate his left shoulder diving for a catch in Kolkata's match against Mumbai.

If the dislocation is confirmed, it is the third time in around 18 months the Queenslander has dislocated the same shoulder.

Running back towards the boundary, Lynn dived forward in an effort to grab a high ball from Englishman Jos Buttler. The Queenslander, who turns 27 today, immediately grabbed his shoulder on impact and signalled for medical assistance before leaving the ground clutching his left arm close to his body.

Medical staff were later shown strapping ice to the injured joint.

There was no immediate update on the severity of Lynn's injury, but his history of similar injuries is concerning.

Lynn had missed the first half of the 2016-17 season after dislocating the same shoulder in Sri Lanka last year, while his recent KFC Big Bash League campaign was cut short due to a neck problem. He also missed the 2015 Matador BBQs One-Day Cup after dislocating his left shoulder.

He had surgery on the same shoulder in the winter of 2014, forcing him to miss the start of the 2014-15 season.

Lynn was treated by KKR's Australian physio Andrew Leipus while Heat and Queensland strength and conditioning coach Paul Chapman was also in Mumbai in his role with the Indians.

The Heat say they will await further details from KKR's medical staff.

"We’ll stay in close contact through this initial process as we get an idea of what the extent of the injury is and what the options are for him," Brisbane Heat General Manager Andrew McShea said.

"It’s unfortunate for Chris to sustain another injury to the shoulder that has troubled him in the past. It’s not the sort of birthday you would wish for, and the best wishes of the club and our fans go out to him."

The powerful right-hander had earlier slammed a quickfire 32 with the bat, following on from his record-breaking innings in Kolkata's opening match of the tournament.
