Lynn ruled out of Matador Cup

New Queensland captain posts confronting photo on Instagram of injury suffered in fielding mishap

Queensland batsman Chris Lynn has suffered a nasty injury blow on the eve of the domestic season, with a dislocated shoulder ruling the talented batsman out of the Matador Cup.

Lynn suffered the injury while attempting a full-length dive in a fielding drill earlier today.

The 25-year-old looked set for a big summer after being named stand-in captain of the myFootDr Queensland Bulls for the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup starting October 5, which followed an Indian tour with the Australia ‘A’ squad in August.

Lynn also made news more recently with a stunning one-day double-century in Queensland grade cricket in a knock that was highlighted by 19 sixes.

However, Lynn will now miss the three-week one-day tournament, as well as the opening rounds of the Sheffield Shield competition.

Cricket.com.au understands Lynn is expected to be out of action for around eight weeks, with Queensland Cricket likely to release more information on Friday regarding a replacement player – and captain – on Friday morning.

Lynn took to Instagram this evening to post a photo of his injured left shoulder with the message ‘Not ideal a week out from the season. All positive vibes here tho’.

It is the same shoulder that required surgery midway through the ‘A’ tour in July 2014, but in good news for the rising star he won’t need to go under the knife on this occasion and is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the KFC Big Bash League season.

Lynn featured in two Twenty20 internationals at the start of 2014 and is expected to be in the running for a berth in Australia’s squad for the ICC World T20 in India early next year.

The absence of the middle-order batsman will further diminish the Bulls’ batting stocks for the Matador Cup, with Usman Khawaja and Joe Burns away with the Test squad for the Qantas Tour of Bangladesh.
