Vics sweat on result of Rogers scan

Bushrangers opener to have scans in a bid to be fit for the Sheffield Shield final against WA

Chris Rogers will undergo scans on his injured glute on Tuesday afternoon to determine if he will play in the Bupa Sheffield Shield final in Hobart, starting on Saturday.

The 37-year-old Test opener was forced to retire hurt on 69 on Sunday in the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers’ second innings against Tasmania in Alice Springs, placing him in doubt for the domestic season’s showpiece event against the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors.

Rogers has indicated that the 2014-15 Shield season will more than likely be his last for Victoria, and that his international career is also likely to conclude at the end of the upcoming Ashes in the United Kingdom in August.

If Rogers is rubbed out, the opener will finish his Australian domestic career with 32 centuries and almost 10,000 runs since debuting for Western Australia in the 1998.

The left-hander has scored 390 runs at 48.75 this season with one century and three fifties, and will leave a sizeable hole in the Bushrangers top order should he be ruled out.

Victoria won the right to host the five-day first-class final after finishing 7.49 points clear of second place Western Australia on the Shield ladder, but due to the MCG’s World Cup unavailability and no other suitable option in the state, Cricket Victoria nominated the Tasmanian capital as its preferred venue.
