Finch Tye’d up, 'Cossie' celebrates milestone

See how the Aussies fared in the overnight County action

Tye claims points in Aussie battle

Two of Australia’s World T20 squad members went head-to-head in Bristol as the domestic T20 action continued overnight.

Aaron Finch’s Surrey won the toss and elected to bat against Andrew Tye’s Gloucestershire.

Finch made an imposing start to the innings, opening up alongside in-form England batsman Jason Roy. The Aussie limited-overs opener found the boundary on four occasions before Tye sent him on his way for 31 from 24 balls.

Tye collected two more wickets for the innings, finishing up with figures of 3-16 from his allotted four overs.

Chasing 152 for victory, run machine Michael Klinger could only manage a score of nine before Thomas Curran struck thanks to a stunning catch from Finch at mid-on.

Ian Cockbain (73 not out) and Chris Dent (39) were able to steady the ship with Gloucestershire reaching the target with six wickets and an over to spare.

Cosgrove brings up 12k

Leicestershire batsman Mark Cosgrove continued his solid form in division two of the County Championship with his third century of the season overnight.

Cosgrove hit 21 fours and cleared the rope on three occasions to finish with 146 as the visitors left Worcestershire with an imposing run chase.

The 32-year-old batsman – who lost his West End Redbacks contract after the 2015-16 summer – also brought up a major milestone when he passed 12,000 runs in first-class cricket. Cosgrove now has 681 runs at an average of 52.38 this season.

Former Victorian Bushrangers seamer Clint McKay then claimed two early wickets in Worcestershire’s run chase to take his season tally to 37, placing him fourth on the list of wicket-takers for the English summer.

However, Joe Clarke spoiled the party with his 123 leading the hosts beyond the target of 366 with three wickets up their sleeve.

Broad set for Pakistan

England spearhead Stuart Broad warmed up for the big Test series against Pakistan next week with five wickets for the match in Lancashire’s draw with Nottinghamshire.

Broad claimed 2-45 from his 25 overs – including the leave below – to go with his 3-50 in the first innings.

Batting headache for Dizzy

George Bailey celebrated his first victory with Middlesex after a stunning collapse by Jason Gillespie’s Yorkshire line-up.

After Yorkshire posted 406 in the first innings, Bailey contributed 62 runs in Middlesex’s total of 577.

Adam Lyth and Alex Lees made a promising start to Yorkshire’s attempt of securing a draw, but the loss of Lyth sparked an epic collapse that saw all 10 wicket fall for a further 126 runs as Middlesex claimed victory by an innings and four runs.
