Aaron's pace impresses in Adelaide warm-up

India quick stars as men's cricket returns at Glenelg with two-day match between Australia's youth and Indians

Scorecard: Cricket Australia XI v India

Varun Aaron's unbridled pace powered India's attack in their final two-day tour game before the four-Test series against Australia starts at Adelaide Oval.

Aaron continued to impress in local conditions on Thursday, snaring four wickets at Adelaide's Gliderol Stadium as the Cricket Australia XI were rolled for 243.

The 25-year-old has played only three Tests due to a series of injuries, but he could most likely expect to add to that next Tuesday.

The right-armer was the leading wicket-taker when the two sides met in a two-day match at the same venue last week. He looked even better on Thursday.

Aaron was handed new-ball responsibilities after being used as a first-change bowler in the corresponding fixture last week.

He didn't disappoint, dismissing Ashton Turner for a duck in the second over when the highly-rated CA XI captain dragged the ball onto his stumps.

Tasmania opener Jordan Silk and Alex Keath put on a stand worth 71 runs after the hosts collapsed to 3-34.

Aaron returned to break it, with Silk out edging for 58.

He finished with figures of 4-41 from 14.3 overs, with Evan Gulbis playing on and Sam Rainbird well caught by third slip Suresh Raina.

Mohammed Shami struck twice with the new ball, removing Ryan Carters and Matthew Short in his six-over spell that cost 20 runs.

India's tour game at Adelaide Oval last week was cancelled following the shock death of Phillip Hughes.

The two sides lined up for a minute's silence before play, while both sides are wearing black armbands.

At stumps, India were 2-99 with Virat Kohli 30no and Murali Vijay 39no.

A day after Hughes's funeral, 11 of Australia's brightest cricket prospects took the field in Glenelg, including the 21-year-old Turner, young Victorian allrounder Keath and highly-rated NSW keeper-batsman Carters.

"This is another great opportunity for some of our most exciting young cricketers to test themselves against one of the strongest international teams," national talent manager Greg Chappell said in a statement.

Cricket Australia hastily organised the fixture to help the tourists prepare for the first Test, which now starts on Tuesday December 9 at Adelaide Oval, and praised the cooperation of the visiting team.

"We appreciate the understanding and cooperation shown by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), who has been nothing but supportive during this tragic time," said Pat Howard, CA's Executive General Manager of Team Performance.

"They have put the welfare of the Australian national and domestic players, as well as the cricket community's concerns for Phillip Hughes's family, well ahead of their own preparation.

"We have a responsibility to provide international teams with adequate preparation ahead of international series and we feel that this two-day tour match will prove sufficient."

India completed a two-day match at the same venue a week ago, and while regular captain MS Dhoni will not be ready for this tour game, he could return for the opening chapter of the four-Test series.
