Hughes fined for Shield incident

Blues batsman docked 25 per cent of his match fee after being deemed to have shown dissent in Sheffield Shield match

New South Wales batsman Daniel Hughes has been fined a quarter of his match fee after being found to have shown dissent in the Blues’ first Sheffield Shield match of 2017.

Hughes was docked 25 per cent of his match for the incident following his lbw dismissal for six in NSW’s first-innings.

The left-hander was struck on the pad by Victoria paceman Scott Boland, who was operating from around the wicket on day two.

After being given out by the on-field umpire, Hughes appeared visibly frustrated as he slowly walked back to the MCG changerooms.

Hughes was reported for breaching Cricket Australia’s code of conduct, with Match Referee Daryl Harper offering him the 25 per cent sanction.

Hughes opted to contest the charge and a hearing was held at the ground, but Harper’s verdict was upheld after reviewing the video footage.

NSW went on to win the match over the ladder-leading Bushrangers by an innings and 77 runs, thanks to an Ed Cowan double-ton.
