Worrall ready to make an impact

The Stars quick is relishing the chance given to him by Stephen Fleming

Melbourne Stars quick Daniel Worrall says he is relishing the opportunity to take charge of an attack that is missing some key players.

Worrall has been called into the Stars lineup for their last three games and picked up a valuable three-wicket haul in the semi-final win over Perth Scorchers.

The 24-year-old said he never got restless waiting in the wings behind John Hastings, Scott Boland and James Faulkner, who are all in the current Australian side.

"It's still brilliant to be part of a squad that involves four guys that are with Australia at the moment," Worrall told Crocmedia.

"The guys on the fringe are still preparing and thinking about our games as much as they are. It's all about when we get that chance to stand up and do something.

"That's what Stephen Fleming is big on, having that squad mentality rather than a first XI."

Worrall has joined all-rounder Evan Gulbis and experienced batsman Rob Quiney in replacing the international representatives.

"That's our role, we understood that at the start of the tournament," Worrall said.

"Flem was honest with us, told us we'd have a big role to play at the back end of the season.

"In terms of preparation, that helped a lot for us guys. We were able to cool our jets early and make sure we were ready to go come this time of the year.

Worrall, with seven wickets from his three matches, said he wouldn't lose sleep over the prospect of bowling to the country's in-form batsman Usman Khawaja and star veterans Mike Hussey, Shane Watson in today's final.

"I understand it's my role to bowl a few overs up the top and try and take wickets if the ball is swinging," he said.

"We'll just go in and prepare like we have every other game. It's what's worked for us and we'll go with it again.

"I'm sure our bowling coach Mick Lewis will have us in good shape come game time."
