I have the wood on Warner: Kuldeep

Confident India left-armer is well aware of his dominant record over the Australia vice-captain ahead of second ODI

Rookie Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav says the pressure will be all on Australia opener David Warner when the pair face off again in Kolkata on Thursday.

The left-arm wrist spinner has taken Warner's wicket four times in five innings against him in all formats and declared on match eve that he had the wood on the Aussie opener.

Warner was Kuldeep's maiden Test wicket in Dharamsala earlier this year and the spinner also dismissed the left-hander in the ODI series opener in Chennai on Sunday.

Throw in three Indian Premier League clashes between the pair and Kuldeep has dismissed Warner four times for the cost of just 49 runs.

And the 22-year-old gave every indication on Wednesday that he's well aware of his record against Warner.

"It's not six (innings), it's five," he remarked with a smile after a journalist incorrectly stated that he'd dismissed him four times in six innings.

"If you have the wood on some guy then you feel you can get him out as early as possible. Because the pressure is not on you, it’s more so on him.

"It is the same with Warner against me, he will be playing under more pressure. He feels 'this guy can get me out anytime' so the pressure is not on me.

"I like to bowl at him and I feel like I can get him out.

"I know what plans (to use) against him so I will look to do that again in the four matches coming up and I hope I can get him out again."

India go 1-0 up after rain-affected ODI opener

In addition to dismissals at international level, Kuldeep has dismissed Warner twice in the IPL; once in 2016 and once this year.

While Warner has fallen cheaply to the Kuldeep in four of five innings against the left-armer, he did hammer 30 runs from just 12 balls against him as he made a superb IPL hundred against the Kolkata Knight Riders in April this year.

Warner hit the spinner for two sixes in that match, one that was dropped over the boundary rope, while he also used the switch hit to pick up two fours.

But Warner's four dismissals against Kuldeep - bowled, caught at slip, caught mis-timing a shot to long off and caught behind - indicates that the Australian has found it hard to pick the Indian's variations.

Having called in local left-arm wrist spinner KK Jiyas to bowl at training in Chennai, Australia's Indian spin coach Sri Sriram has organised for two more left-arm wrist spinners - Rupak Guha and Ashutosh Shibram - to bowl to them in the indoor nets at Eden Gardens this week. Warner, who has faced plenty of balls in recent times having scored back-to-back centuries on the recent Test tour of Bangladesh, did not attend either of Australia's optional sessions in Kolkata this week.

Despite losing a total of five wickets to Kuldeep and leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in a rain-reduced run chase in Chennai, captain Steve Smith has backed Warner and all the Australian batsmen to respond to India's spin challenge in the remaining four matches.

"The other day was very much a shortened game," Smith said.

"In 50 overs, you've got a lot longer to see the bowlers and knock them to the men in the outfield and get into your innings. The other day it was more like a T20 for us.

"If it's 50 overs, guys will have a chance to get into their groove and play with the right tempo. I don't think it will be an issue."
