Can Warner continue record ODI sequence?

Australia's dynamic opening batsman has scored an incredible six hundreds in his last 11 one-day innings

Australia opener David Warner is set to enter next week's Champions Trophy in the middle of one of the hottest batting streaks in ODI history.

Warner, who scored hundreds in his two most recent one-day knocks for Australia against Pakistan in January, has been in stunning form since the beginning of last year, scoring more ODI runs than anyone in that period (1,755) and doing so at an average of 65.

But it's Warner's last 11 knocks in particular that puts the dynamic opener in a league of his own; in that time, he's compiled six centuries – the fewest innings needed for anyone to score six hundreds in the history of ODI cricket.

Six hundreds, 11 innings.

Previously, AB de Villiers managed six in 13 during an especially productive sequence across 2009-10.

Others have managed five hundreds in 11 ODI innings: de Villiers, Sachin Tendulkar, Quinton de Kock, Babar Azam, Zaheer Abbas, Virat Kohli, Kumar Sangakkara and Hashim Amla.

But Warner's phenomenal run is a first, with the 30-year-old – who was once seen as somewhat of a one-day puzzle given his failure to convert a natural predisposition for the format into runs – coming good for Australia in style.

Warner's next challenge has arrived in the form of a Champions Trophy tournament in England, a country in which he's failed to score a century at international level, from 30 innings across the three formats (15 Test, seven ODI, eight T20I).

In fact, of his 31 international hundreds (18 Test, 13 ODIs), 28 have been scored in either Australia or South Africa.

Aussies cut loose in Champs Trophy hit-out

Despite his lean ODI pickings from a relatively small sample size in England, Warner has form in his favour; the Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper is coming off a 641-run season in the Indian Premier League, a return that saw him earn the Orange Cap for the most runs in the tournament (no other batsman managed 500 runs).

Those IPL fireworks came after a disappointing Test series against India, where he fell below his usual lofty standards in Australia's 2-1 series defeat.

But against the white ball, he's been consistently devastating, as evidenced in January, when he briefly jumped to the top of the ICC's ODI batting rankings for the first time in his career before being leapfrogged by de Villiers.

Quick Single: De Villiers returns for Proteas

"It's probably been the format I reckon I struggled at early in my career," Warner said of the 50-over game during the Australian summer.

"The last 18-24 months I've really worked hard on trying to construct my innings and build an innings and not play too many big shots early on.

"And just relay that Test match attitude into the one-dayers because you do get a few more balls in your area in one-day stuff where you can actually play through that line."
