Warner shows off thumb injury X-ray

Opener posts photos of damaged digit on social media as he exits UK with an Ashes apology

"Kids, keep your eyes on the ball."

A simple message from injured Australian opener David Warner, but delivered with graphic evidence.

Warner posted a collage of pictures of his damaged digit on social media early on Monday morning from the UK, showing an X-ray of the break and a very bruised and sore-looking thumb.

The injury has Warner homeward bound from the UK, his Qantas tour of the British Isles over thanks to the break courtesy of a delivery from tall English quick Steve Finn.

Warner departs the UK with an apology to fans "who purchased day four and five tickets and did not get to see any cricket" during the Test series.

The injury is also likely to see Australia play two new opening batsmen in Bangladesh next month after the opener said it was "highly unlikely" he would take part in the two-Test series.

The first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong starts on October 9 and Warner said he "knew pretty much straight away" that he would struggle to be fit for the series.

Quick Single: Warner set to miss Bangladesh

"I know from last time when it was actually just a minor fracture, it was a minimum of three weeks before I could pick up a bat," Warner said.

"I never want to miss a Test match but it's probably highly unlikely I'm going to make Bangladesh."

Warner discusses his Bangladesh prospects

Warner fractured the same thumb in January 2013 when a rearing Mitchell Johnson delivery struck the left-hander in the WACA Ground nets.

The 28-year-old recovered in time to take part in Australia's ill-fated Test tour of India a month later.

But Warner said the break caused by Finn was considerably worse than the 2013 injury.
