ICC Champions Trophy: Day 14 wrap
The points that matter
- Pakistan have stunned the cricket world with a shock win over a hapless England in the first semi-final. Thrashed by India in their opening match, the eighth-ranked side was written off, but have stormed into the decider courtesy of a brilliant fast-bowling display and a clinical batting performance that led to an eight-wicket win against the hosts.
- England declared themselves deserved favourites in the build-up to this Champions Trophy, but for all their posturing, the pressure of the knockout clash told as Eoin Morgan's men reverted to type, crumbling to 211 all out en route to a spectacular exit from the tournament. As a result, their wait for a first piece of 50-over global silverware will continue for another two years, when they get another shot on home turf at the World Cup.
- India captain Virat Kohli indicated he was likely to again include Ravi Ashwin in his side's semi-final against Bangladesh tonight in Birmingham
Tweet of the day
Former England captain Michael Vaughan had long backed England to win the tournament, proclaiming the current batting line-up to be the best the country has ever produced in the 50-over format. So their spectacular implosion must have been tough to watch for the proud Englishman.

Stat of the day
England could only manage 15 fours in their entire innings, and no sixes. It was the fewest boundaries they'd scored in any match since the 2015 World Cup. The fact it came in the most crucial innings since that tournament will doubtless torment Eoin Morgan and his side.
Quirky Moment
Well you just have to watch this one, and let commentator Nasser Hussain explain!
Pic of the day
Pakistan barely put a foot wrong all day, but when they did, they even made it look good, as this stumble-turned-wicket-celebration from Junaid Khan proved!

Hasan Ali. The right-arm quick has been outstanding throughout the tournament, and his 10 wickets are the most by any bowler and the most by a Pakistani ever at the Champions Trophy. His 3-35 from 10 overs formed the backbone of his team's high-quality assault of the much-hyped England attack, as he expertly took advantage of a little bit of life in the Cardiff deck.
What's up next?
Tonight's second semi-final is an all-subcontinent affair between neighbours India and Bangladesh at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Regardless of the outcome, it will be an all-subcontinent affair in the final as well, to be played Sunday night at The Oval in London.
