Doran to break NSW record

Rising cricket star Jake Doran is set to become the youngest player in 50 years to make his debut for the NSW second XI on Monday.

The left-hander will be 16 years and 316 days old when his NSW futures league side take on Western Australia in a four-day fixture in Perth next week.

His appearance will break a long-standing record held by Doug Walters, who was three days older on debut in 1963.

QUICK SINGLE: Doran's player profile

Walters went on to score an unbeaten 140 for the NSW Colts in that match against Queensland.

Doran, the younger brother of Sydney Thunder spinner Luke Doran, has already been labelled one of Australia's brightest batting prospects.

He impressed many - including former Australian skipper Greg Chappell - when he starred in the under-19 international cricket series for Australia earlier this year.

The talented youngster posted a spectacular average of 195 and an aggregate of 195 runs.

Chappell said at the time Doran was the "quintessential" allrounder for the modern era.

"He is an accomplished wicketkeeper who also bowls some handy left-arm seamers," Chappell said.

"(He) shows enormous potential as a left-hand middle-order player in the mould of Michael Hussey."

NSW Blues opening batsman Scott Henry will captain the NSW second XI, in an outfit that also includes Nic Bills, David Dawson, Daniel Hughes and Josh Lalor.
