Bravo can't wait for Gayle reunion

Dwayne Bravo is looking forward to teaming up with fellow West Indian Chris Gayle at the Melbourne Renegades this year

Dwayne Bravo is relishing the idea of lining up alongside fellow West Indian Chris Gayle for the Melbourne Renegades in the KFC Big Bash League.

This year’s Renegades squad comes with some added Calypso flavour thanks to master blaster Gayle joining Bravo at the BBL franchise.

"It’s a dream come true for me to play with Chris Gayle in a team overseas," Bravo told Crocmedia.

"He's been my teammate with the West Indies but we’ve never played together overseas for the same club so I’m really looking forward to it.

"Chris is definitely going to bring something different to the Renegades and to the fans.

"To have Chris Gayle and Aaron Finch at the top of the order, also Cameron White is back with the Renegades so the team looks very good and I’m really looking forward to the season and hopefully Chris and I as the overseas players can bring some excitement to the fans."

Both international signings are on one-year deals and will be available for the entirety of BBL|05.

Bravo played only four games for the Renegades last season before being replaced by Bangladesh allrounder Shakib-al-Hasan, averaging 12.66 with the bat and taking four wickets at 26.75.

"I’m really happy to be back, I always enjoy playing in Australia and I enjoy the Big Bash League.

"Also, I love Melbourne, for me it’s a home away from home and I’m rapt to be back with the Reds again.

"I have some unfinished business I’d like to take care of and hopefully this year we can have a better account of ourselves."

In September, West Indies coach Phil Simmons was suspended and replaced for the team's current tour of Sri Lanka after publicly questioning the make-up of the one-day international squad.

Simmons reportedly said there was "too much interference from outside" in the selection of the ODI squad after Bravo and fellow allrounder Keiron Pollard failed to make the one-day international squad.

Bravo has not represented the West Indies since January – when he played a Twenty20 international against South Africa - while his last ODI appearance was in October last year, before a pay dispute with the WICB led to the abandonment of the West Indies' tour of India.

Both he and Pollard, who plays for the Adelaide Strikers, were subsequently left out of the West Indies squad for the World Cup in March and April.

"I really don’t know what will have to happen to get us back playing again, it’s such a difficult question," Bravo said.

"(I am) fully committed and want to play for the West Indies in the shorter form of the game which is T20 and 50 overs but I think that’s beyond our control."
