Jordan five a perfect warm-up for ODIs

Sussex seamer Chris Jordan earned call-up for England ODI squad after comedy run-out on the weekend

England speed sensation Tymal Mills is in line to make his Twenty20 international debut after being named in the squad to face Sri Lanka.

But Mills will have to wait for his chance with a five-match ODI series to come before the one-off T20 match.

Chris Jordan returns to the one-day squad "feeling in a good rhythm" having claimed a career-best 5-28 in England's one-day tournament to help Sussex to a 31-run defeat of Middlesex on the weekend.

Jordan's five wickets stole the headlines but he also made the highlight reels for a comedy run-out that had his England teammates in stitches.

Jordan played several matches for the beaten IPL finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore and says the experience has helped improve his white-ball bowling.

"I learned quite a bit in a short space of time out there," he told BBC Sussex.

"I felt a made a real impression off the back of the World T20 and got myself into a good feeling in that tournament.

"It's all about protecting that form and good feeling right now. I'm feeling in a good rhythm and I'm nice and clear in what I'm doing in my game.

"All I can do is keep performing and keep trying to win games for Sussex and let everything else take care of itself."

England also recalled Jonny Bairstow to their one-day and Twenty20 squads following his outstanding form in the Test series win over Sri Lanka.

The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 387 runs, including two centuries, and was named man of the series after the final Test at Lord's ended in a draw.

"I'm delighted to be back in the limited-overs squads. I feel like I'm striking the ball well," Bairstow said.

"To be back in England and hit the ground running was the main aim. I wanted to back up the form I've shown for Yorkshire," he added.

"I felt like I had a few people to prove wrong. This series and in South Africa I think I've done that."

England coach Trevor Bayliss paid tribute to Bairstow's contribution.

"The form of Jonny Bairstow with the bat has been phenomenal. He's really come of age and looks like he belongs here," the Australian said.

England named uncapped batsman Dawid Malan, fast bowler Tymal Mills and spinner Liam Dawson in the Twenty20 squad.

Moeen Ali, Alex Hales and Joe Root have all been rested from the England team that was beaten in the World T20 final while allrounder Ben Stokes is still recovering from a knee injury.

"We have made good progress over the past 12 months in all white ball cricket, which has been very encouraging," said England's National Selector James Whitaker.

"The six matches coming up against Sri Lanka will give the players a good test of their credentials. It is important for this group of players to make a mark this summer as we continue to improve ahead of hosting the ICC Champions Trophy tournament this time next year."
