An in-depth look at the records galore from an unbelievable one-day international at Trent Bridge

444 Runs scored by England, the highest ever total in the history of one day internationals breaking a ten years old record 443-9 by Sri Lanka against Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006. It is also the third highest total in List A Cricket after 496 by Surrey against Gloucestershire at the Oval in 2007and 445 recently by Nottinghamshire against Northamptonshire at the same venue in 2016. Three out of four times teams have scored 400-plus in the first innings in 50 overs matches this season at Trent Bridge.

171 Runs scored by Alex Hales, the highest individual score by an England batsman in ODIs going past Robin Smith’s167 not out against Australia at Birmingham in 1993. Hales fell 29 runs short of becoming the first Englishman to register 200 runs in ODIs with 13 overs left in the innings.

112 Number of runs scored by Hales in boundaries, the most by an England batsman in an innings. He hit 22 fours and 4 sixes. No England batsman had yielded 100 runs in boundaries before. The previous highest was 96 by David Gower (18 Fours and 4 Sixes) against New Zealand at Brisbane in 1983.

16 Number of sixes hit by England - 4 by Hales, 7 by Jos Buttler and 5 by Eoin Morgan, the most they have ever hit in an innings and the most Pakistan have ever conceded. England’s previous record was 15 maximums against South Africa at Bloemfontein in 2016 whereas Pakistan’s previous unwanted record was 14 at the hands of Sri Lanka in Singapore in 1996.

22 Balls taken by Jos Buttler to reach 50, the fastest by an England batsman in one day internationals surpassing Paul Collingwood’s 24-ball 50 against New Zealand at Napier in 2008. Buttler also holds record for the top three fastest ODI hundreds from England.

26 Balls needed by Sharjeel Khan to score 50, the fastest by a Pakistan opening batsman other than Shahid Afridi. Sharjeel finished at 58 with the help of 12 fours and a six. He scored 93.10 of his runs in boundaries.

58 Runs scored by Mohammad Amir, the first batsman in ODI history to score a 50 batting at number 11 going past Shoaib Akhtar’s 43 against England at Cape Town in 2003. Amir also hit four sixes, the most by anyone at number 11.

Amir’s 50 came off 22 balls, the joint-fastest by a Pakistan batsman other than Afridi in ODIs. The other Pakistan batsman with 50 off 22 balls is Abdul Razzaq, against England at Karachi in 2005. Afridi has scored 50 in less than 22 balls on nine occasions.

93.10 Percentage of Sharjeel’s runs in boundaries, the second highest for a Pakistan batsman in a fifty-plus innings in one day internationals, behind only Shahid Afridi who scored 94.54 percent of his 55 runs with the help of 4 fours and 6 sixes against Netherlands at Colombo (SSC) in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002.

110 Runs conceded by Wahab Riaz, the second most expensive spell in one day internationals and three runs short of the most expensive (113 by Mick Lewis against South Africa in the famous 434 at Johannesburg in 2006). No bowler before Riaz had conceded 100 runs for Pakistan in ODIs. In the list of five most expensive figures for Pakistan he features three times.

248 The partnership between Hales and Joe Root, the third highest in ODIs for England and highest by any team against Pakistan toppling 238 by AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla at Johannesburg in 2013. Hales was also involved in England’s highest ever ODI stand with Jason Roy, unbeaten 256, against Sri Lanka just two months ago in Birmingham.

5 Number of consecutive 50s for Root in ODIs. If he scores one more in the next game he will become the first Englishman to register 6 scores of fifty or more on the trot. The other Englishmen with five consecutive 50s are Geoffrey Boycott, Graham Gooch, Alec Stewart, Jonathan Trott and Hales.

135 Runs scored by England in overs 41 to 50, the most they have scored in the last ten in a one day international (in matches for which ball-by-ball data is available i.e since 2000). Their previous highest was 129, also against Pakistan at Dubai (DSC) in 2015.

71.42 England’s win percentage in ODIs against Pakistan in last ten years, their highest against any full member team. Both the teams have played 21 ODIs against each other during this period with England winning 15 and Pakistan just five whereas one game was ended as no-result. Of the previous 12 ODIs between the two, England have won 11 and Pakistan one.

4 Number of consecutive bilateral series victories for England against Pakistan in ODIs. With the win at Trent Bridge, England have taken an unassailable series lead 3-0 in the five-match series. The last time they lost a series to Pakistan was in 2005.
