Morgan dismisses predictable label

England skipper backs his bowlers to return to their destructive ways after tough day in Wellington

England captain Eoin Morgan says it's unfair to label his team's bowling attack predictable.

But call them inaccurate and he can only nod his head.

Morgan laid the blame for their nine-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in Wellington on the multitude of loose balls bowled by his seam attack, along with some spilled chances in the field.

However, Sri Lanka centurion Lahiru Thirimanne offered another thought - that right-arm pace bowlers James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn and Chris Woakes are too similar, allowing batsmen to feel comfortable.

"On this wicket it was really flat. It gave nothing for the fast bowlers. No seam, no swing, so it (predicability) helped a lot," Thirimanne said.

Morgan says at their best, England's attack has proven it can be destructive.

He backs his experienced quartet to get it right in their must-win pool games against Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

"My feel is that we bowled a lot of bad balls," he said.

"About it being too predictable? You have to have the best bowlers that you predict will be good and when we're firing, we are predictably good.

"We've got two tall guys (Broad and Finn) who are very effective, get bounce, get pace. We've got two guys who swing the ball (Anderson and Woakes)."

England's best bowler on Sunday was offspinner Moeen Ali, who took 1-50 from 10 overs.

Morgan says changes will be considered ahead of their pivotal clash with Bangladesh in Adelaide on March 9 but only after the team take a couple of full days off.
