Finch smashes T20 records

Australian opener Aaron Finch set a new world record for the highest individual score in an international Twenty20 match in Thursday's clash with England in Southampton.

Scorecard

Finch scored 156 from 63 balls to pass the previous mark of 123 set by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum against Bangladesh in Pallekele in 2012.

It was the third highest individual score in any form of T20, dometic or international.

Finch became the first Australian to score an international T20 century.

It was the second fastest international T20 hundred, falling two balls short of Richard Levi's 45-ball blitz against New Zealand in 2012.

His tally of 14 sixes is the most in any international T20 innings.

Finch's first 50 came from 26 balls. The second 21 balls. The third 13 balls (not records, but still absurd hitting).

Australia's total of 18 sixes is the most by any team in an international T20.

Australia's score of 5-248 is the second highest T20I score behind Sri Lanka's 6-260 versus Kenya in 2007.
