England v Pakistan: by the numbers

Some incredible stats have emerged from the thrilling first Test at the home of cricket

1 Player-of-the-match awards Yasir Shah has received in Tests. His 10-wicket haul at Lord's earned him his first such award after 13 Tests and 86 wickets. He was awarded the Player-of-the-Series award twice in the past but never named man of the match despite being the quickest Pakistani to 50 wickets and occupying a place in the top 10 bowlers in the ICC Rankings for almost a year.

1 Pakistan captain who has scored hundred and duck in the same Test. Misbah-ul-Haq, 114 in the first innings and zero in the second, became the first to have this unwanted record. It was his 10th century and with the win at Lord's his record of never scoring a century in a losing cause remains intact. However, it was the first time that Pakistan won despite him bagging a duck.

Quick Single: Dramatic win gives Pakistan 1-0 lead

5 Times Shah has dismissed Jonny Bairstow in Tests. Shah has played three Tests against England and taken the wicket of Bairstow five out of six times – bowled four and lbw once. Bairstow has faced 209 balls off Yasir and scored just 80 runs at an average of 16.00 and a strike-rate of 38.27.

4 Times Pakistan have won in Tests at Lord's out of 15 matches. Their win/loss ratio at one of cricket's most historic venues is 0.80 which is behind only England (1.64) and Australia (2.42). With this first Test win, Misbah joined the elite company of Imran Khan (1982), Javed Miandad (1992) and Wasim Akram (1996), the previous Pakistan captains who had led the team to victory at Lord's.

Well-drilled Pakistan savour famous win

4 Years since there was a Test in England without a six. The Lord's match between England and Pakistan did not include any maximums. The last time it happened in England was four years and 30 Tests before, also at Lord's – England vs West Indies in 2012.

10 Wickets taken by Shah in the match, the most by a Pakistan bowler in his maiden Test on English soil. The previous record was 9-160 by Asif Masood at Birmingham in 1971. Shah's figures of 10-141 are also the best by a Pakistan spinner in England, beating Abdul Qadir's 10-211 at the Oval in 1987. No Pakistan bowler before Shah had taken a 10-fer at England's most iconic venue, with the previous best being Waqar Younis' 8-154 in 1996.

86 Wickets Yasir Shah has taken after 13 Tests, the most by any bowler at this stage of his career in 139 years of Test cricket. He needs 14 more in two games to break the 120-year-old record of England's George Lohmann, the quickest to 100 Test wickets (16 matches).

Wahab wows with sizzling reverse-swing spell

9,638 Runs Alastair Cook has scored in Tests as an opening batsman, the most by anyone in history. On the second day of the Lord's Test he went past Sunil Gavaskar's long-standing record of 9607 runs as an opener.

11 Wickets taken by Chris Woakes in the match, the best figures (11-102) by any bowler at Lord's in a losing cause, going above Tim Southee on this unwanted list. Southee took 10-108 against England in New Zealand's defeat three years ago.

21 Test matches Misbah has won as captain, the joint-second most among Asians alongside Sourav Ganguly. Only MS Dhoni (27) has won more matches among captains from the subcontinent.

42 Years since a slow bowler has taken a 10-wicket haul at Lord's. The spinner before Shah to bag a 10-fer was England's Derek Underwood – 13-71 against Pakistan in 1974.

127 Test victories by Pakistan, the joint-most along with India among the Asian teams. India have also won 127 but taken 495 matches whereas Pakistan have 127 in 396. The next are Sri Lanka (75) and Bangladesh (7).

0 Times two bowlers have taken 10-wicket hauls in the same Test at Lord's before this match. Woakes and Shah combined for a first at the home of cricket.
