George Bailey is keen for a strong performance from the Australia ODI team at the SCG on Sunday
Bailey looking for ODI redemption at SCG
Veteran batsman George Bailey will be wary of a talented Kiwi side when the Chapell-Hadlee Trophy one-day series between Australia and New Zealand commences in Sydney on Sunday.
The Black Caps currently hold the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy following their 2-1 series victory over Australia on home soil earlier this year and Bailey knows his team will need to be at their best to re-claim bragging rights over their trans-Tasman rivals.
“New Zealand's record in one-day cricket is phenomenal,” Bailey told The Mercury.
“They have a really good blueprint, they bat deep, they field really athletically as a side and they have lots of options with the ball."
Australia enters the Chappell-Hadlee series on the back of a disappointing performance during their five-game ODI tour of South Africa in September and October.
The Australian team was outplayed by the Proteas as they sunk to a 5-0 series loss and Bailey is hoping his side can rebound quickly.
“We obviously had a bit of a disappointing last tour so it’s nice to get back together in Australia and hopefully redeem ourselves,” he said.

“There's certainly an expectation of success in this team and hopefully we can get back to winning ways."
Bailey believes the one-day team will be able to draw on Australia's recent Test victory over South Africa in Adelaide and produce a performance of similar quality.
“I don't know what the mood in the Test team was but there was a lot said about it from the outside," Bailey added.
"It's always a pretty good feeling when the one-day side comes together because you have that mix of players who have been in the Test team and guys coming in from the outside, so there’s a good bit of energy.
“There’s also some general enthusiasm and excitement in getting out and starting up the one-day summer against pretty tough rivals."
