Wedding bells ring for Aussie cricketers

The autum wedding season for elite cricketers continues with George Bailey and Peter Nevill marrying their partners

They may have lost out in the latest round of Cricket Australia central contract offers, but it isn't all bad news two former Australia internationals.

George Bailey and Peter Nevill have both tied the knot in recent weeks, marrying their partners as the annual autumn wedding season continues for Australian cricketers.

Nevill married his partner Sammy Nelson in the Byron Hinterland earlier this month, and the pair have honeymooned in San Francisco, including a sea plane flight over the city.

Wicketkeeper Nevill lost his spot in Australia's Test team last summer after the second Test against South Africa, one of the many casualties of five straight Test defeats.

He endured a tough trot in the KFC Big Bash League – hit in the head twice in freak accidents, including a scary moment when a bat slipped out of Brad Hodge's grip and collected the Melbourne Renegades gloveman in the face.

Nevill rebounded and was in prolific run-scoring form for the NSW Blues in the second half of the Sheffield Shield season.

However he continued to be overlooked by Australia's selectors in favour of Matthew Wade, and was not offered a new central contract when CA detailed it's 2017-18 proposals today.

Bailey was another casualty of the revamped central contract list having lost his spot in Australia's one-day side last summer.

But that would have been far from the Tasmania skipper's thoughts as he wed partner Katie Upton on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, with a host of cricketers in attendance.

The 34-year-old Bailey had spent the past three seasons playing in the Indian Premier League, but was released for the current season.

It made the perfect window of opportunity for the wedding, with fellow Tasmanians Xavier Doherty, Jackson Bird and Tim Paine, who is due to become a father this winter, also attending

The Bailey wedding was described as a "stunning circus under the big top" featuring cowbells, bongos & clothes pegs, with a party that went long into the night

Making the most of wedding season has been Eddie Cowan. The NSW Blues player was a guest at the Nevill wedding, and joined his former Tasmania teammates in Noosa for the Bailey nuptials.

And, judging from this video posted by Cowan's wife Virginia, the former Test opener has been making the most of cricket's wedding season.

Fast bowler Peter Siddle also got married this month, wedding partner Anna Weatherlake in a ceremony featuring their rescue dogs.
