Glamorgan teenager smashes record 200

Teenage batsman equals record held by India's Ravi Shastri in England's County Championship

Teenager Aneurin Donald has equalled the record for the fastest first-class double-century, blasting the record knock for Glamorgan in England's County Championship.

The 19-year-old, who had never scored a century in the Championship before, smashed 15 sixes and 26 fours as he reached 234 from just 136 balls.

He took just 123 deliveries to reach his double ton, equalling the record held by India's Ravi Shastri, putting his side in a strong position on day one of their clash with Derbyshire in the process.

Donald, a former England under-19 skipper, had come to the crease at Colwyn Bay with his side 3-96.

He brought up his 100, 150 and 200 with sixes.

Afterwards, Donald said he hadn't realised he had equalled a record.

"I'm extremely pleased. It's nice to get the guys into a strong position first and foremost, but nice to hit them so well and come out with a big score," Donald told BBC Wales Sport.

"I've been looking for one and finally it came, although I rode my luck at times.

"It was a good wicket, the bowlers were getting a bit tired and it's a small ground, so it's about making the most of it.

"It's a good place to be (in the six-hitting zone), you don't get there too often, you end up not thinking about it too much and it flows.

"You don't get too many days like this and it was nice to make the most of it. I didn't know (about the record) until I walked off. I would have tried to get it a bit earlier."
