Maxwell fined, Marsh warned in IPL

Allrounder breaches IPL Code of Conduct after incident in defeat to Sunrisers

On the day he produced his best innings of the tournament, Kings XI allrounder Glenn Maxwell was fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the Indian Premier League's Code of Conduct.

Maxwell admitted to breaching Article 2.1.8 of the IPL Code which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during Saturday's loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad, though no further details of his offence have emerged.

It was a bittersweet day for the Australian.

Following the fine Maxwell made a season-high 56 from 39 balls but could not get Kings XI over the line against Mumbai Indians at home in Mohali.

Chasing 190 to win, Maxwell put on 89 with Shaun Marsh for the third wicket before the Victorian's dismissal sparked a collapse of 5-30, allowing Mumbai to go on to win by 25 runs.

Maxwell has endured a tough start to the tournament, posting scores of 2, 0, 32no, 4, 1 and 56 as Punjab rest at the bottom of the IPL ladder with one win from six matches.

But the Victorian says he has felt in good touch at Punjab, even if that hasn't translated into runs.

"I've been feeling fine the whole tournament – I've just been finding random ways to get out which can happen in this game," Maxwell told IPLt20.com.

"The last two dismissals I hit the ball in the middle of the bat … there's been nothing wrong with my form – I've been hitting the ball as well as ever."

Saturday's incident wasn't the first time Maxwell has run into trouble with the authorities; in September 2014 the right-hander hit a garbage can following a dismissal in the Champions League and later apologised.

Marsh was also found to have breached the IPL Code of Conduct against the Sunrisers.

Unlike Maxwell, Marsh escaped a fine, instead receiving an official warning and a reprimand for his actions.
