Maxi under injury cloud for fifth ODI

Allrounder to be checked ahead of SCG clash after a blow to knee in epic Canberra victory

Glenn Maxwell will be monitored and assessed before the fifth and final Victoria Bitter ODI on Saturday after copping a blow to his knee during Wednesday's win in Canberra.

Maxwell was struck on the right knee during the early stages of his entertaining and crucial cameo at Manuka Oval, the ball striking him on an unprotected area as he bent his right leg in an attempt to work a ball from Ishant Sharma on the leg side.

The allrounder, on 13 at the time, was clearly in some discomfort as he scampered a single but pushed on to finish with 41 from 20 balls, with six fours and a six.

He started India's run chase fielding at first slip and did manage to bowl one over, which went for 10, before he was replaced by substitute fielder Shaun Marsh.

Cricket Australia said the blow had caused some swelling and discomfort in Maxwell's knee and that he would be assessed in the coming days.

The final game of the series is at the SCG on Saturday.
