Maxwell impresses again for Yorkshire

Allrounder's half-century in wet conditions hands another victory to the Vikings, while Michael Klinger was also in the County runs

Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell has produced his second match-winning innings in four days to guide Yorkshire to a 32-run victory over Durham in England’s domestic One-Day Cup.

Maxwell’s unbeaten 65 off 51 balls ensured the Vikings were 2-130 and well ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis par score when rain interrupted play after 24.3 overs.

Earlier, Durham had scored 7-224 off 43 overs after a delayed start to the match.

Maxwell’s innings followed his 111 last Thursday against Worcestershire, and came after the Australia allrounder was dropped from the Yorkshire team for a Twenty20 match late last month for ‘disciplinary reasons’.

The 26-year-old was originally scheduled to join the Australia A team, who are currently touring India, but had his stay with Yorkshire extended after teammate Aaron Finch underwent foot surgery last month.

Australia will hope Maxwell’s good form for Yorkshire continues ahead of the limited-overs component of the Qantas Tour of the British Isles, which will begin later this month at the conclusion of the Ashes.

In other County action, Michael Klinger scored a century to help Gloucestershire seal a three-wicket win over Somerset in Bristol.

The Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors batsman’s 107 off 133 balls helped his side chase down a target of 245 with two balls to spare.

Earlier, Somerset looked in dire trouble, falling to 6-88 after Jim Allenby won the toss and elected to bat, but the visitors were able to salvage the innings and post a competitive total thanks to an unbeaten half-century from James Hildreth.

Post-match, Gloucestershire coach Richard Dawson praised the efforts of Klinger, whose knock ensured a third successive win for the home side.

"Michael Klinger's century was based on all the experience he has gained over so many one-day appearances,” Dawson said.

“He never panicked on a pitch that made batting frustrating at times and it was a model innings in the situation.”
