Maxwell to face fitness test

Victorian confident of being available for Australia Day T20 clash in Adelaide

Australia allrounder Glenn Maxwell will face a fitness test in the next few days but is hopeful of being available for the first KFC T20 INTL against India on Tuesday.

Maxwell was ruled out of the fifth and final Victoria Bitter ODI Series clash against India on Saturday night due to a slight left hamstring problem, while he is also still feeling the effects of a bruised right knee suffered in game four in Canberra on Wednesday.

The Australians will fly to Adelaide on Sunday for the Australia Day clash against India and Maxwell is in a race against time to prove his fitness.

"I'm hoping to be ready for the one in Adelaide," he told Wide World of Sports.

"It's a bit of a race against time obviously with the series being so close together.

"I'll just be doing everything I can, icing up over the next few days and I'll probably have a fitness test on either Monday or Tuesday.

"But hopefully it should be right."

The match in Adelaide will be followed by games at the MCG on Friday and the SCG on the Sunday that follows.

The series will be an important warm-up for both sides ahead of the World T20 in March and April.

Australia have named a 17-man squad for the series, which they will trim to 15 on February 11 for month-long tournament in India.

Following the T20 series next week, the Aussies will head to New Zealand for a series of three ODIs and two Tests before the fly to South Africa for three T20s against the Proteas in early March.

Maxwell, who has vast experience playing T20 cricket on the subcontinent in the Indian Premier League, is sure to be a crucial component of their quest to win their first World T20.
