ICC Champions Trophy: Day 12 wrap

All the news, highlights and stuff you may have missed from another day's action at this ICC ODI event

The points that matter

- Led by their captain Sarfraz Ahmed (61no) and an excellent display of fast-bowling, Pakistan won a thriller over Sri Lanka to progress to the semi-finals.

- The Pakistanis now face England, while India take on Bangladesh.

- Sri Lanka head home with one win from three matches, having missed several crucial opportunities in the field late on against Pakistan that could well have cost them the match.

Dropped catches cost Sri Lanka dearly

- Faf du Plessis has taken ownership for the costly run-out of his captain AB de Villiers, which paved the way for a huge South African collapse and ultimately their group stage exit from the tournament.

Tweet of the day

This from their former skipper Kumar Sangakkara summed up what every Sri Lankan must have been thinking.

Stat of the day

For just the fifth time in their ODI history - from 877 matches - Pakistan collected all 10 wickets from pace. That stat told the story for Sarfraz Ahmed's enigmatic outfit, whose quicks were exceptional. Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali took three each, while Mohammad Amir and Fahim Ashraf collected two apiece.

Pic of the day

Sri Lanka's Danushka Gunathilaka spilled a catch early in Pakistan's run chase then had this run-out opportunity only moments later. He couldn't pick up cleanly, and the end result wasn't pretty, as this excellent action shot attests. It set the tone for a miserable afternoon in the field.

His team ultimately lost, but what about this from Niroshan Dickwella! Stunning execution of the 'Dilscoop'.
