Warner, Smith jump in Test player rankings

First-Test heroes rewarded for match-winning performances

Batsmen David Warner and Steve Smith have both achieved career-best ICC Test Player Rankings after Australia’s thrilling first Commonwealth Bank Test victory over India in Adelaide.

Warner’s twin centuries of 145 and 102 lifted him two places into fourth position behind Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, while unbeaten innings of 162 and 52 saw Smith rise five places into eighth.

That leap into the top 10 saw Smith move past captain Michael Clarke, who fell one place to 12th.

For India, stand-in skipper and dual-innings centurion Virat Kohli jumped a spectacular 11 positions into 16th, while opener Murali Vijay improved eight spots to 28th.

Of the bowlers, Mitchell Johnson moved up one place to third, with Ryan Harris dropping down from second to fourth.

Nathan Lyon’s first-Test match figures of 12-286 moved the off-spinner into 19th place, behind Peter Siddle who dropped two places to 16th.

India speedster Varun Aaron made the biggest leap amongst the bowlers, rising eight places into 89th.

Meanwhile the ICC Test Allrounder Rankings remained unchanged.
