Warner slides out of Top 10 Test rankings

Latest update from ICC sees India star KL Rahul leapfrog the inactive Aussie opener while Ashes rival Jonny Bairstow now ranked sixth-best in the world

Englishman Jonny Bairstow and Indian duo KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are the biggest winners in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings update, while David Warner has dropped out of the top-10 batsmen for the first time in more than two years.

Bairstow has moved up one spot to sixth in the batting rankings after Indian Ajinkya Rahane fell four places from sixth to 10th having scored just 17 in the third Test against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.

Rahane had scored a century in the second Test, as had teammate Chesteshwar Pujara, but the tight nature of the top-10 batting rankings means one low score can result in a drop in position.

Pujara scored just 8 in Pallekele and, despite scoring a hundred in the first and second Tests, has dropped from third to fourth behind inactive Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson.

Sri Lanka crumble to might of India

Rahul, who equalled the Test record of seven consecutive Test fifties with a half-century in Pallekele, has moved up two spots to a career high of ninth, pushing Warner down to 11th.

It is the lowest Warner has been ranked since Australia's disastrous 60-all-out affair at Trent Bridge in the 2015 Ashes, and you have to go back a further 18 months to February 2014 and the Centurion Test against South Africa, to find the last time Warner was ranked lower.

Dhawan, who scored a century in the first and third Tests against Sri Lanka having earned a recall to the Test side, has moved up 10 places to 28th.

Australia's Steve Smith retains a healthy 50-point lead on top of the batting rankings, with Joe Root, Williamson, Pujara and Virat Kohli rounding out the top five.

Sri Lanka capitulate again as India complete sweep

On the bowling front, Indian seamers Mohammad Shami (up one place to 19th) and Umesh Yadav (up one to 21st) gained ground while wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav (up 29 to 58th) and Lakshan Sandakan (up 16 to 57th) also made gains.

There was no change to the top 10 bowlers; Ravindra Jadeja holds on to No.1 spot despite missing the Pallekele Test due to suspension, ahead of Jimmy Anderson, Ravichandran Ashwin, Josh Hazlewood and Rangana Herath.

Jadeja, however, has lost his status as the world's top-ranked allrounder, with Bangladesh star Shakib Al Hasan resuming his position at No.1.

India's 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka earned them two points in the team rankings, increasing their lead over second-placed South Africa to 15 points.
