Perry, Jonassen rise in ICC rankings

Australia now boast the world's top two ODI batters after a jump up the charts from Ellyse Perry

Ellyse Perry's outstanding form with the bat against South Africa has been rewarded with a jump to No.2 in the International Cricket Council’s one-day batting rankings.

Perry missed the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars' third one-day international on Wednesday due to a groin injury, but her unbeaten scores of 93 and 95 in the first two games were enough to propel her three spots to second place, behind skipper and world No.1 batter Meg Lanning.

Sharing second spot with India captain Mithali Raj, it's the allrounder's highest-ever ranking with the bat and just reward after a stellar run that's seen her score 15 half-centuries in her past 21 ODI innings, averaging more than 90.

Perry has also climbed one spot to fourth in the bowling charts after figures of 2-33 and 1-15 in the two Canberra matches.

How the Stars conquered the world

The 26-year-old, who came into the series with a less-than-ideal preparation due to a niggling knee injury, pulled up sore following her career-best 95no at Manuka Oval last Sunday, but is expected to be fit for the final two ODIs against the Proteas in Coffs Harbour.

Meanwhile, Lanning has strengthened her position as the world's best one-day batter following her 134 in Canberra and 80no in Wednesday's match at North Sydney Oval.

With the ball, left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen has climbed two places to a career-best sixth spot in the ODI bowling rankings.

Jonassen, who has taken two wickets to date in the series against the Proteas, was the overall leading wicket-taker in the ICC Women's Championship, taking 31 scalps during the tournament's two-and-a-half year run.
