Warner Australia's top-ranked ODI batsman

Opener moves ahead of Maxwell in ICC batting charts, while Josh Hazlewood was the big mover with the ball

Opener David Warner’s exciting form in the Caribbean has seen the Australian vice-captain rise up the International Cricket Council’s official rankings, displacing allrounder Glenn Maxwell as Australia’s top-ranked batsman in the 50-over format.

Warner slots in at No.12 in the latest update to the ICC batting rankings.

Quick single: Marsh, Wade lead Australia to victory

Despite being the world’s No.1 ODI team, Australia currently do not have a batsman inside the top 10, but Warner, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch all sit inside the top 20.

Warner scored 165 runs at 82.50 from three innings before being ruled out of the remainder of the ODI tri-series with a broken finger. It was enough to lift the 29-year-old three places higher than where he sat at the end of Australia’s last one-day series, against New Zealand in February.

Maxwell, who was ranked as high as No.9 during the home summer, headed to the Caribbean at No.14, but a loss of form with the bat which saw him score nine in five innings means he has now dropped to No.22, despite his unbeaten 46 in Barbados that saw Australia into the tri-series final last week.

Quick single: The secret to Marsh's match-winning spell

Australia captain Smith remained at No.15 despite an outstanding series with the bat, where his 264 runs at 52.80 was the most of any batsman.

Warner and Smith are closely trailed by Aaron Finch at No.16, while George Bailey (21) is one place ahead of Maxwell (22).

Meanwhile, player of the series Josh Hazlewood has soared into the top 20 one-day bowlers after his outstanding series, moving up 20 spots to a career-high 15th after taking 11 wickets in seven matches.

Mitchell Starc is fifth in the bowling charts following his return after an extended stint on the sidelines, while Mitch Marsh made gains in both the batting (up eight places to 28th) and bowling rankings (up 16 to 50th) after his strong finish to the tournament.

Quick single: Tri-series Team of the Tournament

AB de Villiers has kept the No.1 batting spot despite failing to pass 50 for the first time in an extended ODI series since 2008, with the superstar averaging 24.20 in the tri-series, while West Indies spinner Sunil Narine kept his place at the top of the bowling rankings after taking 12 wickets in seven matches.

Australia have retained the No.1 ODI ranking on the team charts, but South Africa dropped to fourth behind India after failing to make the final. The West Indies remained eighth, but widened the gap between them and ninth-ranked Pakistan to seven points.
