Root with a bullet in latest ICC rankings

England star moves up seven spots to No.4, India's Jasprit Bumrah into the top 10

England's Joe Root is the biggest winner in the latest ICC T20 rankings, moving up seven places to be fourth behind world No.1 batsman Virat Kohli of India.

Root, England's leading run-scorer in their run to the World T20 final in India, now sits behind only player of the tournament Kohli, Australia's Aaron Finch and New Zealand's Martin Guptill on the batting rankings.

Root hammered 249 runs in six matches for England, including a match-winning 83 against South Africa in the group stage and a vital half-century in the final in Kolkata.

Kohli entered the tournament with a 24-point lead over Finch, an advantage he's now stretched to 86 thanks to his magnificent tournament in India and Finch's non-selection for Australia's first two matches in Group 2.

Windies batsman Marlon Samuels moved up five spots to equal 18th after his man-of-the-match performance in the final at Eden Gardens.

Finch is the only Australian in the top 10 batsmen with retired allrounder Shane Watson (11th), opener David Warner (13th) and allrounder Glenn Maxwell (21st) in the top 25.

In the bowling rankings, rookie India quick Jasprit Bumrah was the big winner, moving up six places to No.7 while teammate Ashish Nehra moved up five places to equal 11th.

Star Windies spinner Samuel Badree retains the No.1 spot after his starring role in the final with three more spinners - South Africa's Imran Tahir, India's Ravi Ashwin and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi - rounding out the top four.

James Faulkner (8th) and Nathan Coulter-Nile are the only two Australian bowlers in the top 25.

There was no change to the top of the allrounders rankings, meaning Watson finishes his career as No.1.

And there has been significant movement in the team rankings, with the West Indies moving to within one point of No.1 ranked India.

The Windies gained seven points to finish the tournament on 125, just behind India on 126 with just 14 points separating the top six nations.

Third-placed New Zealand and fourth-placed England also made ground while South Africa lost three points to be in fifth spot, just three points ahead of Australia in sixth.
