Maxwell rises, Starc slips in ODI rankings

Allrounder moves into top 10 of one-day batsmen after fruitful series against India

Glenn Maxwell has jumped into eighth place on the International Cricket Council's ODI batting rankings on the back of a strong Victoria Bitter ODI Series against India, with David Warner also achieving a career high.

Maxwell, who made scores of 6, 26no, 96 and 41 against the touring Indians in Australia's 4-1 series win, climbs two places to entrench himself in the top 10 as the highest-ranked Australian.

George Bailey (14th) is the next best ranked Australian, closely followed by captain Steven Smith (15th), who jumps five places, Aaron Finch (down to places to 16th) and Warner, whose century in the fifth ODI propels him to 18th.

On the back of successive hundreds in the first two ODIs, India's Rohit Sharma moves past his captain MS Dhoni (down seven places to 13th) into fifth place, trailing only Virat Kohli (second) among his countrymen.

AB de Villiers, Kohli, Hashim Amla and Kane Williamson are unchanged in the top four positions.

Among the bowlers, Mitchell Starc's absence from the India series means he relinquishes his hold on the No.1 spot, allowing Black Caps left-armer Trent Boult to begin the ODI series against Pakistan at the top of the bowling tree.

Starc slides into third spot, with Bangladesh spinner Shakib Al Hasan jumping into second spot, and South Africa pair Imran Tahir and Dale Steyn founding out the top five.

John Hastings, who took 10 wickets in his four ODIs against the Indians, climbs into 49th place, comfortably the highest position of his 17-match career.
