Kohli displaced as India's No.1 batsman

Cheteshwar Pujara rockets to No.2 in the latest ICC Test rankings, Steve Smith increases lead

Cheteshwar Pujara has overtaken skipper Virat Kohli as India's top-ranked Test batsman, moving up to second spot in the latest International Cricket Council rankings.

The right-hander has been rewarded for his brilliant double century in the third Test with a huge rankings jump from sixth place, to go ahead of Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and David Warner.

Australia captain Steve Smith, who also scored a big century in Ranchi, is now the only man ahead of Pujara.

Smith gained another five ratings points following his century on the opening two days of the Test, his tally of 941 points the equal-fifth highest score of all time. Only Don Bradman (961), Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs and Ricky Ponting (942) have amassed higher rating points totals.

Despite his run of poor form in the current series, Kohli has maintained fourth spot due to Williamson's slide from second to fifth place, but the Indian skipper lost 21 points after another failure in Ranchi.

Aussie opener Warner also lost ground following his poor run of form, dropping from fifth to eighth.

Peter Handscomb has been rewarded for his match-saving innings on Monday with a jump of six places to 35th, while Wriddiham Saha's century has seen him jump 14 spots to 51st.

In another big change, Ravindra Jadeja has jumped ahead of teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to be the world's leading bowler.

Jadeja had drawn level with Ashwin at the top of the rankings following the second Test, but is now 37 points clear after taking nine wickets in Ranchi.

Aussie quick Josh Hazlewood has dropped one spot to fourth, behind Sri Lankan spin legend Rangana Herath, while Nathan Lyon dropped two spots to be 18th.

South African spinner Keshav Maharaj has leaped 15 spots to 37th following his match-winning haul against New Zealand in Wellington, while Proteas keeper-batsman Quinton de Kock leapt seven spots to 10th in the batting rankings after saving his side against the Black Caps.
