Warner headlines latest player rankings

Aussie opener vaults back into top 10 as young Windies hero Shai Hope makes huge leap forward

David Warner's Asian drought-breaking hundred has earned the opening batsman a rise of five places in the latest ICC Test batting rankings, returning him to the top 10.

Warner made a brilliant 112 in the second innings of Australia's first Test defeat to Bangladesh, and jumps up to sixth spot in the rankings on 779 points, narrowly ahead of Pakistan's Azhar Ali (769).

The dashing opener still now trails Virat Kohli (who remains in fifth spot) by 27 points, though there is some distance between the India captain and the top four.

Australia captain Steve Smith retains his position at the top of the tree, on 938 points after returns of eight and 37 in Dhaka, and he is followed by England captain Joe Root (902), who made a pair of fifties in his team's loss to West Indies at Headingley.

New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (880) and India's Cheteshwar Pujara (876) round out the top four.

Outside the top 10, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal jumped six places to 14th after his double of 71 and 78, while West Indies heroes Kraigg Brathwaite (up 14 places to 16th) and Shai Hope (42nd) also make strong surges, the latter climbing an incredible 60 places off the back to his historic twin hundreds against England in the second Test.

Hope and glory as Windies win a day five thriller

Among the bowlers, there was little movement within the top 10, though Bangladesh superstar Shakib Al Hasan – who remains the top allrounder in all three forms of the game – climbed three slots to a career-high 14th place after his match-winning 10-wicket haul against Australia.

His fellow spinners Mehedi Hasan (up three places to 30th) and Taijul Islam (up four places to 32nd) have also moved up after finishing the match with five and four wickets, respectively.
