Warner, Williamson achieve career highs

Kane Williamson and David Warner shoot up ICC Test rankings after star showings in the second Test

South Africa's AB de Villiers has held on to his No.1 ranking in the ICC's Test batting rankings, but a pair of Australians and a star Kiwi are breathing down his neck.

In the latest rankings released on Wednesday, New Zealand's Kane Williamson has moved up three places to draw level with Australian skipper Steve Smith in second spot after scoring his second consecutive century in the Trans-Tasman series last week.

Australia opener David Warner also jumped three places to move to fifth, one spot below England's Joe Root, after he posted his maiden Test double-century against the Kiwis in Perth.

The top five batsman are now separated by just 19 points and there could be a further shake-up of the top five later this month when the Trans-Tasman trio and De Villiers play Tests in Adelaide and Nagpur respectively.

Williamson's teammate Ross Taylor moved back into the top 10 following his record-breaking innings of 290 at the WACA Ground, moving up seven places to 10th.

Adam Voges and Usman Khawaja were also rewarded for centuries in Perth, moving to career highs of 32nd and 47th respectively.

Mitchell Johnson has signed off in ninth position on the bowler's list, 84th in batting and fifth among the allrounders.

There was little change in the bowling rankings; Dale Steyn retained top spot while India's Ravi Jadeja moved up eight places to 13th.

The below rankings tables - captured at the time of the ICC media release - have Steve Smith at No. 2 and Kane Williamson at No.3. They are actually equal second.
