Younis, Yasir climb in ICC rankings

Pakistan veteran overtakes Williamson, Root and Amla to sit second in the Test batting rankings

Pakistan veteran Younis Khan has jumped to second on the International Cricket Council's Test batting rankings after helping his team seal a series win over West Indies on Tuesday.

Younis missed the opening Test of the series due to dengue fever, but returned with a bang in Abu Dhabi, scoring 127 and 29no in Pakistan's 133-run victory.

It was enough for the 38-year-old to leapfrog New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, England star Joe Root and South Africa's Hashim Amla in the rankings.

Only Australia captain Steve Smith sits above Younis in the rankings, still holding a hefty 46-point lead over his Pakistan rival.

Quick single: Super Smith proves he's a class above

It's Younis's highest ranking since 2009, when he held the No.1 spot after scoring a triple century in Lahore against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq climbed one spot to 10th after scoring 96 in his team's first innings, while two half-centuries propelled Asad Shafiq up two places to 14th.

For the Windies, left-hander Darren Bravo slipped out of the top 20 after being unable to replicate his first-Test heroics, while Kraigg Brathwaite jumped three places to 32nd after his fighting second-innings half-century.

Stokes wraps up dramatic Test win

Jermaine Blackwood's 95 was enough to see him leap 11 places to 41st.

In the bowling charts, Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah’s match haul of 10-210 in Abu Dhabi saw him return to the top five, sitting level with England’s Stuart Broad in fifth place.

England's dramatic 22-run win over Bangladesh in Chittagong on Monday has also resulted in movements in the rankings, with wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow moving to a career-best 11th place after scores of 52 and 47, while man-of-the-match Ben Stokes claimed a career-best No.4 rank in the allrounders’ charts after scoring a half-century and taking six wickets for the match – including the final two wickets on the fifth day to seal the thrilling win.
