Pattinson picks out most satisfying wicket

James Pattinson took wickets for fun on the English county scene this year but the Aussie speedster has to wind the clock back more than five years to find the one scalp stands above the rest during his injury-interrupted career to date.

Pattinson made his Test debut back in December 2011 as one of three first-timers in Baggy Green alongside David Warner and Mitchell Starc.

And while Warner and Starc have gone on to be regulars in the Test side in the intervening years, Pattinson has been in and out of international cricket since, his appearances limited to 17 owing largely to a raft of injuries that have cruelled his obvious talent.

In that debut clash however, it was the Victorian who stole the show, claiming second-innings figures of 5-27 against the Black Caps to lead Australia to a comprehensive win at the Gabba.

A month later, India were the opponents, Sydney was the location, and the favourite wicket among Pattinson's four first-innings victims was a living legend (watch all four wickets in the video below).

"Sachin Tendulkar at the SCG," Pattinson relayed to ESPN Cricinfo when asked whose wicket had given him the most satisfaction in his Test career.

Playing in just his fourth Test, Pattinson took the wickets of openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag, before returning to the action and claiming middle-order legends VVS Laxman and Tendulkar – the latter chopping on – as India were rolled for 191 before stumps on day one.

"I think they're probably intimidated about the way we're bowling, the areas we're bowling, we're not giving them any loose balls," Pattinson said at the time.

"For them they've probably got it in their mind 'where are we going to score', because they're not getting any loose balls at the moment.

"Intimidation comes with us bowling really well."

Pattinson finished with five scalps in a match best remembered for captain Michael Clarke's epic 329 not out, with the young quick adding to an incredible start to his Test career, in which he claimed 25 wickets from his first four Tests.

"My expectations were just to perform well," he said of his initial entry into the top level.

"If I could go out there and take wickets, that's what I was trying to do, and try to get a regular spot in the Australian cricket team."

Pattinson missed the remainder of the series with a bone stress injury in his left foot, and never again squared off with Tendulkar following his memorable Sydney moment.
