James Pattinson will play for Victoria on days three and four of their Sheffield Shield match after the fast bowler was overlooked for the third Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Bushrangers teammate Peter Siddle will partner NSW Blues Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood in a three-prong pace attack in the historic day-night Test.

Pattinson will fly to Perth this afternoon where the Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers are taking on the Alcohol.Think Again Western Warriors in the four-day Shield match starting today.

Right-arm fast bowler Chris Tremain will make way for Pattinson for the final two days of the fixture.

"James will be available to play from Sunday, following a day’s rest after travel and will replace Chris Tremain," Victorian Chairman of Selectors Andrew Lynch said.

Pattinson is still a chance to bowl in Western Australia's first innings after the hosts won the toss and elected to bowl despite losing paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile to suspension.

WA were dealt a blow prior to the toss with speedster Coulter-Nile suspended from the clash after being found guilty of dissent in the Toyota Futures League clash against Queensland earlier in the week.

He was suspended for one match for what was a second code of conduct breach.

There has been tension between the two teams following the draw last week at the MCG with then captain Siddle accusing WA of not trying to win and settling for the draw.
